I just read a wonderful article in School Library Journal about what kinds of books babies enjoy:
In short, they don’t have to be board books! I remember one of my library school professors recommending nursery rhymes for babies who were too young to even focus their eyes on the pictures in a board book. Why? As the author of this article discovered, reading to her grandchild, babies enjoy the familiar sound of people talking. Board books usually don’t use many words per page. A “balanced diet” of books for a baby can include both board books and picture books– and the article includes more than a dozen suggestions of books to try.
