On Christmas Eve my family would watch whatever Christmas movie was on. My favorite was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Rudolph feels different from the other reindeer because of his shiny nose. Ernie the Elf doesn’t fit in with the other elves because he doesn’t want to make toys; he wants to be a dentist. Together the friends head out into the world together. Along the way they make some interesting friends and find that being different is not only okay it comes in pretty handy in the end. A blizzard leaves Santa with no choice but to cancel Christmas until Rudolph’s nose saves the day.
Everyone has felt different like Rudolf at one time or another. I loved Ernie the elf who wanted to be a dentist. The toys on the island of misfit toys always seemed perfect to me. I wanted to rescue them all. I especially loved the Bumble. After the movie we would be bundled off to bed and as we fell asleep we would listen to the Santa report to see where the big guy was and how soon he would be at our house. We stayed awake as long as we could but somehow always missed Santa (though there were some times we were sure we heard a jingle and saw a red glow in the sky).
