Living after a nucelar disaster

Radiant Girl
Radiant Girl
by Andrea White tells the story of a Ukrainian girl living near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station.  She loves her family and her home, but just as she is turning eleven she gets a strange warning that the world as she knows it is about to end.  Her birthday is followed by a disaster that destroys the power plant and poisons the surrounding countryside with radiation.  All of a sudden she is uprooted, her father is very sick, and she has to make sense of it all without any reliable information.  Katya is a likable girl you will want to root for as she grows up, struggling to understand the changes brought about by the disaster 25 years ago.
