Video Games: Quick Picks

LEGO Star Wars characters
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is a game with an emphasis on fun and puzzle solving skills.  The game mixes platforming and action all into an entertaining format.  This is a game that can be played by beginners but more experienced players and parents 🙂 will enjoy to play it as well.

The game is a good choice for parents who would like to avoid their kids being exposed to video games with violent content.  The violence in this game consists of minor lightsaber fights.  When spaceships crash and droids explode the effect is not dramatic because everything is made out of LEGO pieces.  The playability of the game is increased by features like when the character gets destroyed, the player continues to play and doesn’t have to start the level over.  There are also many levels to get through, although more experienced players will breeze through most.  The stylus can be used in this game as well.

Players who have watched the Star Wars movies will be able to better understand some of the humor.  Characters don’t really talk, they have a funny way of “mumbling” their words and is fun to guess what they are really saying.

This game is recommended for ages 8 and up.

Other platform games for DS with similar characteristics for this age group are: Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, New Super Mario Bros and Kirby.

To borrow a video game, start by placing a hold with your Fountaindale library card.  You can place two holds per card.  You can place the hold yourself using the online catalog and your library card, or ask for help at the library’s Reference desk.  When the holds are available, the library will contact you.  Games can be picked up at the Information desk in the lobby.  Games can be checked out for 7 days.
