Stack the countries
This month we will talk about an interesting app for children 8 years old and up that won the Editor’s Choice Award from Children’s Technology Review. It works with devices that use iOS 4.3 or later or Windows 8.1.
Stack the countries is an educational geography game that teaches and quizzies kids on the countries of the world and their shapes, neighbors, landmarks, capital cities, languages, flags, and other geographical facts. Gameplay involves reading questions and choosing from four different countries the correct answer. If the player answers the question correctly, they get to drop the country and stack them one on top of the other. One has to use his judgment and avoid to knock down the stack of countries. Kids can rotate the county on the screen before dropping it, until enough countries are stacked up to reach the checkered line. Then the player receives a random country as a bonus, that gets placed on the world’s map that looks like a puzzle.
Once kids receive 20 countries, a second game called Map It is unlocked. After one collects 50 countries, a third game called Pile Up is unlocked. With more then 1000 questions this app engages children or adults in a fun and quite complex game while expanding their knowledge about the world’s geography.
